This website is designed to look in depth into mapping out both building, street and land ownership maps of Port Royal, prior to the earthquake in 1692 using a variety of primary and secondary sources including manuscripts, printed primary sources, journals and publications. To give background and aid clarity I will also briefly illustrate the immediate history of Port Royal surrounding the earthquake as well as the earthquake itself in order to identify the effects it had on the land and indicate the importance of creating a map of land that no longer exists, in order to maintain its correct historical place. However it is important to acknowledge that my main focus will be on transcribing and using original manuscripts to identify plotable points as opposed to describing and analysing the history of Port Royal and the legal or religious implications of the earthquake.
The titles of the individual pages in the menu bar reflect the key topics I will be exploring in regards to Port Royal. They include:
-
Why there is value in researching and mapping the physical setup of Port Royal, prior to its vast alteration.

A limitations page discussing the pros and cons of manuscript sources as they are the main source used throughout this project, reaching individual conclusions of feasibility.
-
Databases created for the purpose of this project and used as a source to aid with mapping.
-
A blog defining the process of starting, working and completing the project and the overall feasibility and sucsess.
